Parents, the General Election is coming on 4th July! Your vote is critical to ensure we elect candidates who will help deliver on a childcare strategy.
If you’ve read our blog earlier this week - you’ll know that as a devolved part of the UK, NI has responsibility for a range of different powers delivered through Executive Ministers and their departments, and scrutinised by MLAs in the Assembly. The 18 elected MPs from NI will be scrutinising the UK Government.
The Treasury are responsible for Tax Free Childcare, whereas the Executive are responsible for the NI Childcare Strategy.
So when it comes to childcare, a long-term strategy will likely require input from both Stormont and Westminster.
Today, we’ve outlined our key policy asks for our soon-to-be elected MPs. We’ve also shared how you as a voter can push for change as well as what our MPs can do to deliver for parents in NI.
We know that parents need quick access to information on what matters to them - so keep an eye on our feed as we will be sharing the specific childcare pledges from political party manifestos and keeping a keen eye on which candidates pledge to act on our policy asks.
The deadline to register to vote is 18th June, make sure you don’t miss out!
And a huge thank you to Smartphone Free Childhood - another amazing parent led campaign whose own 'Policy Asks' has inspired the format of our own - check them out - and support their campaign!
